MG-2, a winner

I am back with a brief report on my MG-2
Well, I received my MG2 a few weeks ago.
And my first thought was how natural this gun pointed at the target.
And how well Morini’s (cesare) grip fitted me.
The grip angle was to big to me, so I had to adjust the grip angel a bit.
(it was pointing 5-6 degrees upward when pointing)
When this was done I headed to the shooting range.
First I was not impressed at all, the shots was spread horizontally.
I tried a lot of different ammunition. The pistol ate it all.
But it never seem to group.
I felt the recoil was not so much softer than other pistols, but it was more as a blow straight back.
It fell very quick back on the target.
After first day on shooting range I thought the pistol was genius to shoot, but was hard to get used to.
I went home with mixed feelings. I did some more adjustments on grip angel and moved trigger a bit.
Next day, equipped with more brands of ammunition. I ran a few rounds into the targets just to feel recoil and the feeling of the pistol for each brand . All “rapid fire” 10-12 seconds for 5 shots
(a total of 30 shots)
Now I was grouping much better horizontally, but still using the hole 9 in the height.
Suddenly when using a older lot of CCI, sv, I had this feeling of success. Everything felt all right.
After 15 shots I checked the target, it was just a nice look.13 of the shots was in a group of 12-13 millimetre outside diameter. The two other shots was not far away.
Encourage of this I continued the next series in same target, but with a minor adjustment on the sights. The next 10 shot are well placed. 8 of them inside the inner ring of the 10, and one ordinary 10 and one nine. WOW. Now we are talking. The pistol was not hard to get used to but it is probably choosy on the ammunition.
Next day coming, it was a standard pistol match in a local club. I went there with high expectations.
False I must say, because I newer practice these things. After all I am an air- & free-pistol shooter.
And 95 percent of all my shots/practice lays here.
So the bad timing must take the responsibility of my low 544 score with one miss.(late on 10second)
But I learned a lot. The grip is so comfortable that I forget to hold a firm grip.
And the quick recoil and recovery gives You a lot of time for next shot in the rapid fire sessions.
I had approx 800 rounds through it before dismantling and cleaning.
Allthough there is 7 screw to remove, it was not a problem. And no problem to put it together afterwards either.
All in all I have had 3 malfunction so far. Two of them had partly oversized leadbullets.
(They would not even chamber in 30 year old wather gsp) and one due to experimenting on low velocity. I must say the MG-2 has performed flawless, and add’s joy to my shooting.
It is a winner

Stale,

Congrats on the new MG-2. It appears your experience closely matches mine, with the exception that my pistol doesn't seem to mind what kind of ammo you put in it. It seems to shoot it all into the 10-ring when I do my part.

As for the horizontal grouping, one thing to watch out for with the 2-stage trigger is that it's very easy to start "pushing" your shots sideways through improper trigger technique on the rapid-fire series. If you have tight grouping in the precision stages but your group moves sideways in rapidfire stages then you may want to take a look at trigger technique.

Here's to hoping you have more success with this fine pistol!

Ammo and MG2

I've tried a few diifferent brands of ammo in my MG2: IVI Imperial Target, CCI Standard Velocity, PMC Scoremaster, Winchester T22, Federal Champion 711, Federal Gold Medal 711B, Lapua Trainer; all have fed through the gun without any hangup (not counting "dud" rounds that wouldn't fire - even with four hits). Yesterday, I tried Eley Pistol Xtra, the one with the silvery-coloured EPS bullet. It would not feed! When I racked the slide back, the lower pivoting dooey (2055 - bullet carrier) would not lift the bullet up, ready for insertion into the chamber. I tried repeatedly - reloading the magazine and starting again - to no avail. Thinking maybe the upper pivoting dooey (2060 - bullet insert lever) had broken again, I tried "old reliable", the CCI Standard Velocity. No problem; it fed without problem. So...my question: has anyone else had a problem with Eley Pistol Xtra (or other Eley with the EPS bullet) failing to feed in their MG2?

To be honest I didn't think any Eley EPS would be a good feeder because of the bullet point. I was even worried about Lapua Midas with the differently finished point.
I'm replying to this post to once again tell all about how well my MG2 digests and shoots Aguila Standard Velocity(coledistributing.com). To be honest it didn't do well in my Kimber Hunter Silhouette rifle(none of the four lots would shoot well) but its great in my MG2. I didn't notice any difference with the Pistol Match except I want to say it burned cleaner, but I only shot 100 rounds so I do intend on getting a case to shoot outdoors this spring.
