In 1996 it was the Atlanta 500 Air Rifle Championship; 1997 through 2000, it was the Wolf Creek 600. In 2001, the Wolf Creek Young Shooters Association launched the Gary Anderson Invitational as the successor to the previous tournaments. The 2004 Three-Position Invitational is sanctioned by the Georgia High School Association to permit participation by high school teams, by USA Shooting to facilitate the recognition of National Records, and by the National Three-Position Air Rifle Council to allow competitors to earn Junior Distinguished Badge EIC credit points. The standing Air Rifle and Small-bore are separate matches and are USA Shooting sanctioned.
All shooters entering the small bore or standing air rifle matches, must be members of USA Shooting and must provide their USA Shooting membership number.
Each registered shooter will receive a participation medal. The Three-position air rifle tournaments are conducted under the 4th Edition 2002-2004 National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules. Small bore and standing air rifle matches conducted under USA Shooting 2004 rules.

Dear Shooting Team Coach:
Your shooters are cordially invited to participate in the 2004 Gary Anderson Invitational. The Gary Anderson Invitational is one of the major shooting championships for juniors in the country, offering three-position air rifle competition for middle school and high school individuals and teams. It also offers a 3x20 and 3X40 small bore match and a 40/60 shot standing air rifle match. The 40/60 shot air rifle match will encompass individual and team participation in both precision and sporter class. Relays in each event are offered over six days covering two weekends. Each match in this tournament will be considered a separate competition for purposes of team composition. The Gary Anderson Invitational is an outstanding competition opportunity for every school shooting team, whether you are contenders for championship honors or want to participate in a major competition to see how your shooters compare with other junior shooters from all over the United States. The 2004 program includes precision and sporter divisions. Both of these divisions will have awards for the top scores in the new shooter category as well as awards for both varsity and junior varsity teams. The top precision team will receive a trophy and have their team information engraved on the Gary Anderson Invitational Trophy. This is a rotating trophy that will be on display at the event and is housed on permanent display at the Civilian Marksmanship Program Headquarters at Camp Perry, Ohio. The top sporter team will receive the Gary Anderson Invitational Award: a Walther Junior air rifle and supporting hardware. Special awards will recognize individuals and teams with the most improvement over last year’s Gary Anderson Invitational scores, as well as the WCSCI Bill Wayda award to the top new shooters in both precision and sporter. A new set of awards is being added this year rewarding the top three places in prone, standing and kneeling in both sporter and precision classes. Every shooter and team, regardless of the type of equipment they use or their level of experience, will have an opportunity to compete for awards in a truly high quality competition. This Excellence-in-Competition championship is one that every team should attend—we sincerely hope you and your team will join us in Columbus in November or December for a great competition.

The Pool Range, Ft. Benning, Georgia
Shooting on the electronic target systems is truly a special experience. The electronic targets display the exact result of every shot instantly. Shooters will not need spotting scopes. Electronic scoreboards make shooting at Ft. Benning a great spectator event. Parents and friends who want to see your team compete are welcome. The prone and kneeling positions are fired from tables. No shooting mats are available so competitors are required to bring their own. The staff will provide a briefing to all competitors before every relay to explain the target system and range operation. There will be no training days available before the match.

An entry form is included with this program. Please make as many copies as you need, fill it out completely, and return it to the match director, Bill Wayda. My address is included on the entry form.
How to Find Pool Range at Ft. Benning
Follow Interstate I-85 south from the Atlanta airport to I-185. I-185 ends at Ft. Benning. Guards will be checking identification and car registrations and insurance for entry to the base. It will be necessary for each junior shooter or group of shooters to be accompanied by an adult. Each adult must have appropriate photo identification (driver’s license, passport, or birth certificate) available for entry. In addition, each adult must have an authorization from the appropriate guardians to sign the waiver of liability for each shooter under his care. Failure to have proper authorization documents will forfeit the shooter’s participation.
Once past the guard checkpoint, continue along the main road, keeping to the right at the split in the road. Turn left at the first traffic signal into a parking area and immediately turn left again onto the road that parallels the main road. Follow this road to the Pool Range. The registration and parking will be at the 10M building.

Three-Position Air Rifle Tournament. This tournament has four categories: Individual Sporter, Individual Precision, Team Sporter, and Team Precision. This 3X20 event is fired in 8 relays over 4 days with Finals after each relay so that everyone gets the experience of shooting a Final. For results, the top eight 3X20 qualifying scores will have their finals scores added, this will determine the top eight over all positions. The 3X20 qualification scores will rank the remaining shooters. The individual 3X20 scores fired by four member teams will be added together to determine team winners. Finals scores will not be used for team totals. Medals will be awarded to the top three places in Prone, standing and kneeling in both sporter and precision classes.
Open International Standing Match. This 40/60 shot air rifle event for women and men with finals will be fired Sunday mornings at 0900, 20 November and 5 December, for those athletes staying overnight and wishing to compete in another match before heading home. The competition is open to individuals, and high school, collegiate and clubs teams. Collegiate shooters and men and women will be in separate classes for Gary Anderson awards. The first 40 shots will be used to determine team awards.
Open Small-bore Match. This 3X40 match for men and 3X20 for women with finals will be fired on the 50 Meter range. There will be one relay at 900am on Saturday November 20 and December 5. The event will be sanctioned under USAS rules. The competition is open to individual high school and collegiate students. Collegiate shooters will be in a separate class for Gary Anderson awards. There are no team awards for this match.

Position Air Rifle Events 19 November, 20 November, 3 December, 4 December.
• Squadding- Random. Coaches should request relays early because they fill up fast. We will do everything we can to put shooters on the requested relay. Since precision and sporter shooters will be mixed on the line, there will be no coaching.
• Eligibility-Entry is limited to shooting athletes who are enrolled in school through grade 12 and are students in good standing. All team entries must represent the same school, no club teams.
• Categories-There are two categories, precision and sporter as defined in the 2002-4 National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules.
• Course of Fire- A 3x20 match as defined in the National Standard 3-Position Air Rifle Rules. Shooters will be given a minimum of 5 minutes to move their equipment to the line before the preparation period starts. Preparation time starts 10 minutes before the scheduled match time. Shooters will have a 5-minute change over period between each position. After the kneeling position is completed and the targets are serviced, a 5-minute changeover period starts to prepare for the Finals, then the 3-minute Finals preparation period. All shooters will shoot the Finals. To determine the final ranking of the top eight competitors in the 4 competition days, Finals scores will be added to the top eight 3X20 qualifying scores. Electronic targets will be used. Prone and kneeling positions are fired from tables.
• Team Match-Team scores are determined by a 4-member paper team. Entries are for varsity sporter and precision teams and junior varsity sporter and precision teams. Mixed teams (precision/sporter) must shoot as precision teams. All team members must be declared at the time of registration at the range. Photos will be taken at that time of each individual and team with their coach. Schools may enter as many teams as they wish. All team members do not have to shoot on the same relay as long as all team members are named at registration.
• Junior Varsity and Varsity - Junior Varsity teams are made up of 10th grade students and below. A JV team may include one 11th or 12th grade student who is a new shooter. Varsity teams are made up of 12th grade students and below.

• Awards-Top 8 shooters in both sporter and precision, top 5 varsity teams in both sporter and precision, top junior varsity team in both sporter and precision, top 10 new shooters and most improved shooters in both sporter and precision, and most improved team in both sporter and precision. The Bill Wayda Award to the 1st place new shooter in both sporter and precision. Top 3 shooters in both sporter and precision in prone, standing and kneeling will receive awards.
• Entry Fees- $15 per shooter and $15 per team. All team members must compete as individuals. Payment must be made by October 15th to reserve firing points on requested relays. Late payment will be taken on a space available basis; fees will be $25 per shooter and per team. No refund after Oct. 15th.
• New Shooter- A shooter who began participation in an organized shooting program after 15 April 2004.
• Most Improved-The number of points of improvement over the 2003 Gary Anderson Invitational (final program scores) will determine these special awards for individuals and (same member) teams.
Open International Standing Match 21 November and 5 December
• Squadding-Random.
• Eligibility-This match is open to individuals in high schools, collegiate and club shooting teams. Collegiate shooters will not shoot against high school shooters. All shooters must be USA Shooting members ($20 junior membership) or free the first year with the proper form. Those shooters who registered for new membership last year must be current members in good standing and provide USA Shooting registration number. USA Shooting club registrations are not permitted. USAS Membership registration is available via the web site at www.usashooting.com This match will be sanctioned under USA Shooting rules.
• Categories-Precision and Sporter individual and teams as defined in the 2004 USA Shooting Air Rifle Rules, no designation for varsity or junior varsity, minimum 3 teams for team awards. Collegiate shooters will be in a separate class, with a minimum of 3 team entries for a team award.
• Course of Fire-40 shots standing air rifle for women, 60 shots for men in one hour and fifteen minutes and one hour forty-five minutes, respectively. Electronic targets. All shooters may shoot finals. Finals scores added to the qualification total for the top eight individual shooters in each category will determine standings.
• Conduct of Match-All shooters will compete as individuals (no coaching).
• Team Match-There is a four-member paper team match using scores from the individual competition; the first 40 shots for men will be used so teams can be mixed men and women. Finals scores will not be used for team scores. Mixed teams (precision/sporter) will compete as precision teams. Teams must be declared at the time of entry
• Relay time- Relay # ST1 Sunday, 21 November, 0900-1045 + finals
Relay # ST2 Sunday, 5 December, 0900-1045 + finals.
• Finals-Everyone may shoot finals. The preparation period for finals will begin 15 minutes after last shooter is finished. Only the first 40 shots of the men’s match will be used as qualification score to determine team standings. Finals scores will be added to the qualification total for the top three shooters in each category to determine overall standings.
• Awards-Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for the top three shooters in men's and women's sporter and precision and awards for the top three teams in sporter and precision. All classes' must have minimum of 5 entries for awards. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for the top three shooters in collegiate class, with a minimum of 3 team entries for a team award.
• Entry Fees- $15 per shooter and $15 per team. All team members must compete as individuals. Payment must be made by October 15th to reserve firing points on requested relays. Late payment will be taken on a space available basis, entry fees will be $25 per shooter and $25 per team. No refunds after Oct.15th.
Open Smallbore Match 20 November and 4 December

• Eligibility-The match is open to high school and collegiate individuals. Collegiate shooters will be in a separate class, with a minimum of 3 entries for a awards. All shooters must be USA Shooting members and membership number must be provided. Match will be sanctioned under USA Shooting rules.
• Course of Fire-3X40 + finals, men and 3X20 + finals, women. USA Shooting Rules. All shooters may shoot finals. Finals preparation to start 10 minutes after men's kneeling finishes. Finals scores will be added to qualification total for the top eight shooters to determine Gary Anderson standings.

All shooters may shoot finals. Finals scores added to the qualification total for the top eight individual shooters in each category will determine standings.
• Conduct of Match-All shooters will compete as individuals (no coaching).
• Team Match-There is a four-member paper team match using scores from the individual competition; the first 40 shots for men will be used so teams can be mixed men and women. Finals scores will not be used for team scores. Mixed teams (precision/sporter) will compete as precision teams. Teams must be declared at the time of entry
• Relay time- Relay # ST1 Sunday, 21 November, 0900-1045 + finals
Relay # ST2 Sunday, 5 December, 0900-1045 + finals.
• Finals-Everyone may shoot finals. The preparation period for finals will begin 15 minutes after last shooter is finished. Only the first 40 shots of the men’s match will be used as qualification score to determine team standings. Finals scores will be added to the qualification total for the top three shooters in each category to determine overall standings.
• Awards-Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for the top three shooters in men's and women's sporter and precision and awards for the top three teams in sporter and precision. All classes' must have minimum of 5 entries for awards. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for the top three shooters in collegiate class, with a minimum of 3 team entries for a team award.
• Entry Fees- $15 per shooter and $15 per team. All team members must compete as individuals. Payment must be made by October 15th to reserve firing points on requested relays. Late payment will be taken on a space available basis, entry fees will be $25 per shooter and $25 per team. No refunds after Oct.15th.

• Eligibility-The match is open to high school and collegiate individuals. Collegiate shooters will be in a separate class, with a minimum of 3 entries for a awards. All shooters must be USA Shooting members and membership number must be provided. Match will be sanctioned under USA Shooting rules.
• Course of Fire-3X40 + finals, men and 3X20 + finals, women. USA Shooting Rules. All shooters may shoot finals. Finals preparation to start 10 minutes after men's kneeling finishes. Finals scores will be added to qualification total for the top eight shooters to determine Gary Anderson standings.
