rifle scope and dot crosshairs

What is the prevailing wisdom for dot sizes? I shoot 4P indoor gallery matches and have used a Weaver K15 (fine duplex reticle)for a couple of years but just switched to Weaver V4-16(1/8 min dot reticle). The issue is regarding the purpose of the dot on the crosshairs. It certainly gives the shooter a point to focus on vs the plain crosshairs that demand that the eye deal with both crosshairs. For the lower positions the primary issue is a good natural point of aim and good position to establish hold. for standing, the 'wobble area' is increased so I have heard expert shooters advise different approaches using the dot, ie...as long as the dot is inside the nine ring the shot is good). The size of the dot and the ability to hold all become part of the equation. Any comments? Thanks
