filing pistol grip?

Post by Katy »

hi
the pistol grip on my ans 2002 doesnt fit my hand quite right and Id like to do some filing on it. But it makes me nervous doing something so permanent. What is the best way to work on these grips so that the still feel smooth and look okay?

Katy: A file is the best way. There are many different types of files all the way from a rasp which has very rough teeth and cuts aggresively down to fine files intended for metal work. You can start with a rougher file to shape it then when it feels right use some fine ones to smooth it out. You can always build it back up with epoxy if you go too far.

I found that putting some pen/magic marker on the wood in the areas that don't feel right helps focus the filing. Also, if you can (or have someone) trace your grip, it enables you to see the places to work on. Slow and steady....it'll feel just right when it is. FWIW

Grip it and chalk it

Post by Len »

When I work on my grips I chalk my hands pretty good, sometimes I use resin with chalk and grip the grip. Normally if done right you can see where the chalk (and hence you hands) comes in contact with your grip. Where there isn't chalk, most of the time, no grip contact.
Depending on how much I have to take off, I either use a dremel tool with a sanding drum (course), a "mouse", a light rasp or file....it really depends on where and how much has to go. Finally I finish with sand paper to smooth it out and at least seal it before using it.
Remember you are filing laminate which has glue, may be bad when airborn so wear a mask and eye protection. Also it's MUCH easier to file the grip off the gun...but harder to tell if it's "just right".
Lastly I again suggest you seal it well. I saw a blond laminate stock for a p-70 split at the glue points because a fellow made stock modifications but didn't seal his stock up right.
If you REALLY mess it up, you can always buy another grip.

This demand is all centered on the Internet <a href="http://airfare.transestore.com/airfare.asp">airfare</a> and the brisk sales of digital cameras. 9.3% <a href="http://credit-card.transestore.com/cred ... sp">credit card</a> of all households owned digital cameras in 2000, <a href="http://ski-vacation.transestore.com/ski ... n.asp">ski vacation</a> as opposed to 4.4% in 1999. 4.6% percent obtained <a href="http://car-rental.transestore.com/car-rental.asp">car rental</a> a digital camera in 2000 alone according to <a href="http://dating.transestore.com/dating.asp">dating</a> a Photo Marketing Association survey.
