Champions Choice Security Issue

Post by PirateJohn »

I just was on the Champions Choice website and I noticed a major security issue, so be careful if you order anything from them. When you enter their website, look at the icon next to the web site URL and make sure it shows a lock. Right now the site is not defaulting to encrypted traffic, so if you order something through the site, your credit card information and your password could be stolen by a hacker.

I e-mailed them about it, but for now if you must order something through them, make sure to type https:// before the URL (note the S after http) and make sure that the lock shows up before you enter a password or any credit card information to send.

Also, I'm not sure who runs this Target Talk site, but it has the same issue -- it doesn't automatically forward http requests to https, so be careful when entering your password here, too, especially if you use the same password on other sites.

I've never had any trouble with the CC website. Could be a client side problem - I suspect different web browsers may behave differently.

The website does normally not indicate a secure connection until you begin the "log in" process.

Once you begin the log in process, it will redirect from http to https and the lock icon will appear. I believe this is common with eCommerce sites.

I do agree that if you don't have a lock icon, or https prefix, (for eCommerce) you should not enter any information.

Thanks for the heads up.
