I dont think 10 meter air pistol belongs in the Olympics.

Post by manishkob »

I don't see where any athleticism comes into play with a 10m air rifle contest. I actually find it less impressive and athletic than throwing darts. What do you think?

Are there other events in the summer games you think don't belong?

Are you talking about air pistol or air rifle?

I'll tell you what I think. I think you failed your first post. You confuse/switch from pistol to rifle.
Tell us about your illustrious shooting career that you think isn't worthy of the Olympics.

Do you wish trolling was an Olympic sport?

It's clearly not for everyone - but I think 10m AP it is one of the most intriguing events in the Olympics.

Having been a lifelong center fire shooter (been shooting AP for about 6 weeks now), I can't imagine anyone with any level of interest in precision not being inspired by Javad Foroughi's Olympic performance in July. A new world record, oldest IR athlete to win a gold medal at age 41, and all from a guy who 10 years had never even picked up an air pistol. No fancy stuff, no fluff - just great shooting.

In the final round he averaged 10.2 across 9 shots. That is crazy good. Give it a try. Trust me, it's not as easy as it looks.

The Olympics was started as a military game. Shooting of any kind should be at the top of the list. But, maybe you're into Break Dancing.

Oh ya, break dancing that'll make me shiver in a dark alley. Personally I think they could have put that event in a separate venue, like "Dancing with the Stars". I wished they would televise more of the precision shooting sports on ESPN or other sports channels. My POV only.

I don't even bother watching any of the sports on TV anymore. I streamed them instead. Fewer commercials and better commentary.

John, how and what channels do you stream. I don't know what or how to do that.

Personally, I don't like any event that is "judged" for performance.

Clearly the originator of this post has NO idea about the complexity and/or the skill to hit the middle of the target for 10m a/p.
I've not been doing this for very long but my admiration goes to those who master the skill of holding the gun out unassisted by sling or brace and hitting the midle on more than just a random few times...
Definitely worthy of its place at the Olympics on every day of the week!

That is understatement of the century.
Then @Smith - how would you explain 23 consecutive 10s from Chaudhury? :)

Air pistol is truly such an unforgiving sport. Unless someone has actually tried it at 10 meter, I don't think they can appreciate just how difficult it it.

Yeah it's pretty unbelievable actually. 23 consecutive 10s - that's just as crazy.

But if those same last nine 10s were up against a 10.2 average for the same nine - guess what?

I'm not up on how they actually score those 10.X shots, but like I said - just crazy.
