Target light?

Post by brent375hh »

I have done some mild searches, but can't find a standard for target illumination.
I want to practice with a target that is to a uniform range standard.
Does a standard exist, ( it must?) for how many lumens a target face illuminates indoors?

Thanks

It's in the ISSF General Technical Rules. It's Page 256 in the 2020 version. Rule 6.4.14 "Indoor Range Light Requirements (Lux)"

I've used a pair of clip on desk lamps with a bendable neck with satisfactory results.

Cheap clip on with a 75W bulb (with my "milk-crate-special").

A little below the spec (and not very elegant) - but it seems to work for me.

What are you pinning the target to; is that just cardboard that gets replaced periodically?

Yes - the Walmart or Home Creepo "double wall" box cardboard works great. I replace after about maybe 10 of 20 targets.

The steel is just 3/16 cold rolled 12" X 12" sheet at a 45 deg angle. The force of impact of an 8 gn. PB projectile traveling at 500 fps doesn't even approach the tensile strength of the steel so they either deflect into the foam or just flatten and drop straight down.

Good luck !
