World Shooting Para Sport Championships Conclude in Sydney
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 18, 2019)
Six American shooters were in action Friday during the final day of competition at the 2019 World Shooting Para Sport Championships in Sydney, Australia.
In the qualification round of the R6 mixed 50-meter prone SH1, Kevin Nguyen (Columbus, Ga.) posted the highest score for the U.S. with a 607.7, good for 29th place. Taylor Farmer (Castalia, Ohio) finished 35th with a 605.0 total.
Great Britain’s Matt Skelhon won the gold medal to become a double world champion at the event, having won gold earlier in the week in the mixed 10m air rifle prone. On Friday, he also equaled the world record of 215.4 set by Germany’s Natascha Hiltrop, who took the silver medal in Friday’s event. Israel’s Yuliya Chernoy claimed the bronze.
In P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 competition, the top American score was fired by Aaron Causey (Riverside, Ala.) who shot a 548 to finish 34th. YanXiao Gong (Malibu, Calif.) was 36th with a 547, followed by Marco De La Rosa (Chicago, Ill.) in 48th (537) and Michael Tagliapietra (Fond du Lac, Wis.) in 54th (523).
Tomas Pesek of the Czech Republic took the top prize in the men’s 10m air pistol ahead of Russia’s Sergey Malyshev and India’s Manish Narwal.
