CHANGWON, South Korea (September 13, 2018)
Henry Leverett won silver in Junior Men’s 25m Sport Pistol today at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship in Changwon, South Korea.
Leverett (Bainbridge, Georgia) and his brother, Jack Leveret III (Bainbridge, Georgia), were tied with a score of 288 following the first of two stages (Precision). During today’s Rapid Fire stage, Henry Leverett firmly secured the silver medal with a score of 584.
“The Precision part – the first part of it – isn’t may favorite part, but it went pretty smoothly,” said Leverett. “I was just looking forward to the Rapid stage because it’s faster and I like it better. Sport Pistol has always been a fun match to shoot. The Rapid Fire Pistol competition definitely helped me get ready for this because it’s the first shot of the Rapid series in Sport Pistol. I think it helped me a lot because I’ve been just dry firing all week long.” Leverett finished in fourth place in the Junior Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol earlier in the World Championship.
Jack Leverett III finished in sixth place with a score of 578. Ryan Yi (Diamond Bar, California) finished in 29th place with a score of 558.
The Junior Men’s 25m Sport Pistol Team also just missed out on a bronze medal by one point with their cumulative score of 1720 to finish in fourth place. Team medals are awarded on the cumulative scores of a nation’s athletes in a given event.
The Men’s 25m Centerfire Pistol event also took place with the highest American finish coming from three-time Olympian Keith Sanderson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) in 11th place with a score of 581. Alex Chichkov (Temple Terrace, Florida) finished in 22nd place with a score of 576 and Konstantin Pitsoulis (Brooklyn, New York) finished in 46th place with a score of 550.
The Men’s and Junior Women’s Skeet competitions kicked off today in rainy conditions at the Changwon International Shooting Competition. After the first 75 targets in the Men’s competition, two-time Olympic gold medalist Vincent Hancock (Eatonton, Georgia) leads with a perfect 75/75 targets. Two-time Olympian Frank Thompson (Alliance, Nebraska) is in 12th place with 73 targets and Phillip Jungman (Caldwell, Texas/U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit) is in 79th place with 69 targets.
On the Junior Women’s side, Sam Simonton (Gainesville, Georgia) is currently in second place with 71 targets. Austen Smith (Kellar, Texas) is in fifth place with 69 targets and reigning Junior Women’s Skeet World Champion Katie Jacob (Rochester, Michigan) is in sixth place with 69 targets.
The Skeet competition wraps tomorrow afternoon with an additional 50 targets plus Finals.

The conclusion of competition at this World Championship wraps tomorrow with the final day of Men’s and Junior Women’s Skeet, as well as the 25m Standard Pistol event (Open and Junior) and the Men’s 300m Three-Position Rifle competition.
The 52nd ISSF World Championship concludes Saturday at the Changwon International Shooting Range. More than 1,800 athletes from 91 countries have gathered in Changwon to compete in the 15 Olympic Shooting events, as well as 51 non-Olympic events across five disciplines.
