Beard Fifth, Spaude Eighth at ISSF World Championship
CHANGWON, South Korea (September 12, 2018)
Sarah Beard was the top U.S. finisher today at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship when she finished in fifth place today in the 300m Women’s Three-Position Rifle event.

Beard (Danville, Indiana) shot a score of 1154. Reya Kempley (Reno, Nevada) finished in 23rd place with a score of 1117 and Denise Loring (Manassas, Virginia) finished in 30th place with a score of 1053.

The United States also had its first competitor in the Target Sprint competition at a World Championship. Jason Spaude (Saginaw, Michigan, pictured) finished in eighth place in his first Men’s Target Sprint competition.

In Men’s 300m Standard Rifle, Bradley Ylinemi (Duluth, Minnesota) finished in 27th place and Mark Gould (El Segundo, California) finished in 31st place with a score of 549.

Two Men’s 25m Pistol events also got started today with the first of two stages. In Men’s Centerfire Pistol, Alex Chichkov (Temple Terrace, Florida) shot a score of 288. Three-time Olympian Keith Sanderson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) scored 287 and Kostatinos Pitsoulis (Brooklyn, New York) scored 281.

25m Junior Men’s Sport Pistol also started with the first of its two stages. Brothers Henry and Jack Leverett III (Bainbridge, Georgia) both shot a score of 288. Ryan Yi (Diamond Bar, California) shot a score of 276. Stage Two of both competitions will take place tomorrow afternoon.

The conclusion of these 25m events, as well as the first of two days of Men’s and Junior Women’s Skeet competition kick off tomorrow.

The 52nd ISSF World Championship runs through September 15 at the Changwon International Shooting Range. More than 1,800 athletes from 91 countries have gathered in Changwon to compete in the 15 Olympic Shooting events, as well as 51 non-Olympic events across five disciplines.
