adjustable front sight

Post by NickyT »

Hi,
I'm looking for an adjustable front sight.
Now I 've a 4mm crystal-clear.
Which range I'll should get for a smaller ring? I need just a 'light' from the center to the ring.
thanx.

(1) what's the distance from front sight to rear sight?
(2) are you using an "eagle eye?" (a magnifier in the front sight)
Both of these will influence the choice.
Hammer to shape, file to fit, paint to match...

If you want an aperture under 4.0mm, get a range smaller than this. I think both Centra's and Gehmann's "small" size range is 2.3-4.3mm.

An aperture smaller than 4.0mm seems small for 10m Air Rifle.

The 4.3 maximum size on the small range sights is about the minimum you should use for air rifle. Larger apertures actually give better results, especially in standing. A sight with adjustments from 3.0-5.0 would give you more options.

It is better to err on the larger opening, rather than smaller.

thanks for your replies.
the distance from front sight to rear sight is 77cm and I'm not using any magnifier. I've planned to buy an iris aperture (0,8-1,8) but not now.
I'm evaluating the MEC sight, but I'm uncertain between 2.8/4.8 or 3.8/5.8 range
have you some suggestions?

Both the Gehmann and Centra (MEC) adjustable 3.8-5.8mm front sights will only achieve a minimum of 2.0 rim thickness.
The adjustable 2.8-4.8mm front sights have, or adjust down to a 1.6 rim thickness.
I find the 2.0 rim thickness appears very thick, especially at a 77cm sight radius and will take your eye away from the target too much.

I would get the 2.8-4.8 mm front sight as you will get better sighting because of the thinner 1.6mm rim thickness.
Cheers
Martin
