Rhode Wins Silver in Cyprus

ATLANTA (April 30, 2017)
Kim Rhode won silver today in the Women’s Skeet event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup for Shotgun in Larnaca, Cyprus.

Rhode, who has won gold in Women’s Skeet in the last three ISSF events (2016 World Cup Finals and the two previous World Cups this year in New Delhi, India and Acapulco, Mexico), picked up just the sixth World Cup silver medal of her career with today’s finish, bringing her overall World Cup medal count to 32. Today’s silver-medal finish also marks the first time in Rhode’s career that she’s won three World Cup medals in one season.

Though Rhode (El Monte, California) secured her spot in the Final with the highest Qualification score (73 of 75 targets), she dropped eight targets in the Final to finish with 52/60 targets. Wei Meng of China won the gold medal with her score of 54. Sutiya Jiewchaloemmit of Thailand won the bronze.

Also, qualifying for today’s Final was three-time Junior World Championships silver medalist Dania Vizzi (Odessa, Florida), who finished in sixth place – her highest international finish since moving up from the Junior ranks. Sam Simonton (Gainesville, Georgia) finished in 15th place (68 targets).

Men’s Skeet competition also kicked off today in Cyprus with the men shooting their first 50 targets. Christian Elliott (U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit/Greenwood, Indiana) has a perfect 50 targets thus far. Mark Staffen (USAMU/Lewis Center, Ohio) dropped just one target for 49 and Dustan Taylor (USAMU/Staley, North Carolina) has 47. Competition continues tomorrow with an additional 75 targets and Finals.

More than 400 athletes from 61 countries are competing at this ISSF World Cup.
