FAS 607

Post by jens_ms »

I have been shooting for about 6 years, the last two years with my own pistol (danish gun laws require one to be at least 20 years old to apply for a permit)

My current pistol is a walther ksp 200. The pistol works great, I dont think I've had any malfunctions the time I have used it. However I have come to the decision that I would be better off with something that fits my hand better. I have previosly shot with a Hammerli sp20 and quite liked the grip. I have held, but not shot, a pardini sp aswell. I think that the grip angle on the pardini might suit me pretty well, although it will take som getting used to.

I have just, however, been offered a "FAS 607" at a pretty good price. Does anyone have any experiences with this gun? I have searched around the internet and found that they are pretty sensitive to ammo type, and also they do not really have a trigger stop as such. Do you think it can hold its own against fx. a pardini sp? It looks like the grip angle on a FAS 607 is somewhere between the ksp 200 and pardini sp, which I think might suit me pretty well.

However, the reason I am looking for a new pistol is to "get the best" (fit, trigger etc.) and I worry that the FAS 607 might not really hold its own against a pardini sp?

I realise of course, that one has to be a very good shot in order for the pistol to be the limiting factor, and there is no way I can outshoot my current pistol either. But I do have the feeling that having a "better" gun may make it easier to consistently shoot high scores, if you know what I mean. I guess there must be a reason why alot of people swear by the pardini's? (at least in Denmark that is)

Best regards,
Jens

I usually do not reply to postings recommending a pistol because it is about individual choices and what is important to your shooting style and process. In this case though I have owned all or similar pistols to the ones you mentioned. My favorite is not the one I will recommend because I think the pragmatic approach is best.
I used to own an IZH-35 with Morini grip, very near a KSP-200 and found it lacking in trigger adjust ability and didn't like how it started to double fire with certain ammunition, plus I could not get parts. I owned a Hammerli 280, similar to the SP-20 and didn't like the balance. I owned a FAS 602 which is about identical to your FAS 607 and it is my favorite, however it is sensitive to cleanliness and ammuniton. I've had more light strikes with it than any of my other .22's but I like how it balances and points to the target, I think the trigger and grip are the best.
Lastly I have a Pardini SP that is almost 20 years old and I shoot it the most because I know if something breaks I can replace a part within a week, not that anything has broken, just replaced recoil springs. It has the most adjustable trigger of the bunch and all other elements of the pistol, recoil management, pointing, sights, reliability are very good to outstanding to me.
Of the group mentioned I think the Pardini SP will be the last pistol you need to buy.

There's no availability of factory parts. Sure you might find them here and there, but when the time comes to replace something, I doubt that you'll find the part you're looking for.

Get a Pardini, buy once, cry once...

Thank you for the replies

How often did you have to change parts in your FAS 602?

I can definitely see your point about the pro's of the pardini. I think the price I would have to pay for the FAS 607 is quite nice, but of course that feeling will probably only last until something needs replacing.

As the FAS602 was mentioned, seems you can buy a service kit here:

Didn't see a SP607 kit.

But with the FAS 6007 to be released, parts may be interchangeable.

In the last two years I have never changed any parts in my pistol, and I am pretty sure that the previous owner didn't replace anything either. I think I shoot maybe 3000 shots a year, which I guess is not really that much though.

Of course this depends on the pistol, but one of the reasons I bought a ksp 200 even though parts are very hard to come by (from what I've heard) was that I assumed that nothing could really break in a .22 pistol. Maybe I have just been lucky so far, or just not put enough shots through my pistol yet.
*edit. I am shooting about 2,5-3k a year now, but in total i have only put maybe 3k shots through the pistol

Greetings,

I have purchased some spares direct from FAS DOMINO in Italy. I was able to use PayPal to pay for everything. Sadly, most shipments go via DHL, add 20-30 Euros to your bill.

The rubber-like buffers take their toll along with the constant working of the recoil spring. Two items to keep in your spares box.

Caveat, my parts were for the obsolete FAS603. The 602 have the same design principle, as far as I can see.

Cheers,

Dave

I have never broken any parts on my 602 but with job, school, life's events I don't shoot anywhere your 3000 rounds a year. I bought recoil springs and buffer but have not changed them out.

I have a number of high end .22 pistols - but the FAS 602 is the one I reach for the most.

Perfect weight, balance & "pointability". I have never replaced a part on my 602 , nor my 607 either.......

As a matter of interest, I bought my FAS 607 a couple of years ago, new from a dealer in the Czech Republic who had 3 new, old stock samples left. They still have the other 2 I believe..... It was a very cost effective purchase, working out to be less than 50% of a new Pardini, or similar grade .22 pistol.

Firing pins do break. In Aus it seems impossible to get hold of a quality firing pin for the FAS
Mainspring and hammer springs need to be replaced regularly

Spill the beans. Who was the dealer?

I have arranged to go test fire it later this week, if it fits my hand I might buy it. Unfortunately I have not seen them for sale in Denmark before, so I have no idea of what a fair price would be.

Have a look at the very nice 602 that Hunters House has. Realty nice condition - I've just been admiring it...

I have been looking at that one too, unfortunately I think that about 5000 DKK is a bit too expensive for me.
I think I might be able to get the 607 at about half the price, if I can knock the price down a bit due to the grip being slightly modded

They 602/607 work best with the extract removed. Pure blow back.
Keep the gun clean (no brainer as it is simple to disassemble) and
change the recoil spring often as the factory ones get compressed
and stay compressed. I should start looking at better - longer lasting
springs.

Other issue, firing pin has finite life. You can always have a local
machinist make one from the dimension of the broken on.
