Does anyone know what happens to the forms a buyer fills out when buying a firearm? Does it stay with the dealer unless the Feds ask for it?

I'm not trying to evade the law, just curious.

Yes. The forms stay with the dealer, even if law enforcement needs to see them. Law enforcement is given a copy of the form if they have to have the information.

When the dealer closes his business, the forms are all sent to the ATF in Washington.
