"8.9.2 Malfunction Repairs
Should a pistol break down or cease to function, the athlete is allowed to repair the pistol. In all cases the Range Officers or Jury must be informed so they may decide on the measures to be taken.
a) An athlete is allowed a maximum of 15 min. to repair or replace a pistol in order to resume the competition;
b) If the repair is likely to take more than 15 min., the athlete, at his request, may be granted more time by the Jury;
c) If extra repair time is granted, he will complete the competition at a time and place determined by the Jury or he may continue to fire with another pistol of the same type of mechanism (semiautomatic or revolver) and of the same caliber;
d) If a substitute pistol is used, it must have been approved by the Equipment Control Section; and
e) In the 25m events the Jury must allow one (1) extra sighting series of five (5) shots."

My question is, what happens to the competition during those first 15 minutes the athlete is allowed to repair the gun?
Does it continue without him or does it wait for him?

It continues

Clear the gun and take it off the line to not disturb others.
The match continues without you.
Replace or fix it away form the range and return.
Complete the remaining series either with the others if
some series of theirs remain or on your own.

Somewhat unrelated question.

Last NZ Nationals I was shooting a Matchguns MG-2 and had a cartridge flip up into the elevator mechanism creating an unclearable jam during the loading period.

It was still in the 1 minute load command at around 45 seconds I put my arm out and gestured to the RO - he saw and continued. I had already had one malfunction.

Lost 50 points, right or wrong?
I now have a GSP which so far has proved troublefree.

I have fixed a firing pin gate in prep time once. That was a bit of a squeeze. Unique DES-32.

IMHO that was right I'm afraid, unless you can show that the gun is broken.

I always worry when I see shooters charge their magazines and then wait to the last 15-20 seconds before putting it in the gun.

It is quite tricky to load a Matchguns MG-2 magazine quickly. If you accidentally press the lever on the mag it spectacularly catapults all of the cartridges out in salvo.

Not good.

This could be a difficult one....
It could be argued that the pistol has a "break or cease to function" as it is not working in a maner that it was designed to work.
Did the shooter have direct control over the loading procedure or has something else gone on ! Maybe a unknown....
I think that this would allow you to replace the pistol. but the bottom line is you still only get one re-shoot these days (except for blackpowder... thank goodness).

after some years of using my mg2 i find that i usually load the tabular magazine faster than my clubs gsp. i had once sprayed my bullets as i was loading but had enough time to reload the magazine insert and continue the series .. of course a had a adrenaline rush but all went well. when i test my clubs ssp i spend much more time loading the magazines making sure the bullets sit like the manual shows.
