Greetings All,

I recently learned that my Father-In-Law, Richard C. Amundsen, was the Civilian Champion at Camp Perry in 1956.

Any chance someone would have an Official Match Bulletin.

We would like to add it to the family history.

Cheers,

Dave

Another option may be the American Rifleman. At that time they had excellent match coverage. The magazine was for shooters back then.

I can't help with the match program or the issue of American Rifleman. But I can tell you that he joined the 2600 Club in 1958. That means that he shot above 2600 in an NRA Registered Match.

Richard C. Amundsen 1958

Greetings jmdavis,

Many thanks for the information. We have the NRA 2600 paperweight and pen holder in the cabinet. Now we know the date.

Old Gil Hebard books suggest he was about the 40th person to fire a 2600.

What book did you find the 2600 club data?

Many thanks,

Dave

There really isn't a book, but there is a computer file. I can sort by year to give you ~ data, but I don't know the exact date of the match, just the year. It would be great if the NRA had the info online, but they do not at this time.

Dave,

The October 1956 American Rifleman page 24 laconically, and with no photos, states:
"Robert C. Amundsen, from Roy, Wash., was high Civilian in the Pistol Championship with a 2549-74X."

Best,

Hap

Love that old-timey USMC stuff!

Bill McMillan was famous even before I met him.

Great find Paul. I didn't even think about the McMillian stuff since I already had the 2600 list.

Especially USMC team picture where everyone has a closed slide, points a gun to his mate (or the photographer), and well 1/3 of them have fingers on the triggers.
