Help shooters—I’ve been blessed with a new GT 45 but I am unable to find VV N 310 anywhere. Does anybody know a current source? Thank you, Dipnet

I saw some at Sportsman's Warehouse about a week ago. We are starting to see more pistol powders in the stores. I bought 8 pounds of Bullseye at Camp Perry. Bullseye is what I have, so that will be what I load.

Another place where I purchase n310 is Fin and feather in Ashland,oh.

Fin Feather and Fur had no VV powders at all at Camp Perry this year.

You have to search the internet far and wide.
I have heard VV has arrived at some dealers, but no 310.
Try the reloading forums as well.
Like Cast Boolits, Dillon press users.
VVn320 will also work well, plus Bullseye.

I second the recommendation to use Bullseye, It is half the price, and less temperature sensitive.

Yes, but where to find Bullseye? It has been on backorder for over 3 months from Lohman's which is the only on-line supplier I could find that would take backorders. I got a notice from Midway that they had received some, but I did not see the email until 45 minutes after it was sent and by then they were out again. Midway also has the absurdly high limit of six 8 pound containers per customer, so I expect that much of what they sold will show up on Gunbroker at inflated prices that will only continue to fuel the psychology of shortage.

Fin Feather and Fur had lots of it at Perry.
I also saw it at a sporting goods store in Gunnison Colorado, two weeks ago, so powder is coming back into the inventory.

WST is a good alternative to VN310. Nothing more accurate than a 200gn SWC on top of 4.2 gns of WST on the short line.

Problem is WST doesn't meter as well as VVn310.
VV is an extremely fine powder, it meters better than most powders.
If using WST for long line I would hand meter on a good scale.
For 25 yards it should be OK on the press powder measure.

That was my biggest complaint about Clays. Not only was it temperature sensitive, but it metered poorly.

It is great to have friends that go to the nationals at Perry.

Brenda and Tony picked me up an 8# jug of Bullseye while they were there.
Have yet to get it in my hands but will in the next month when we resume shooting out here.

I use it for my .38 in my M52 and .45 in my Clark Sr. long slide.

I have tried different powders for both but find Bullseye to be the powder of my choice.

2.8 gr for the 148 gr in the M52 and 4.6 gr for the 185 gr in the .45

Now I just need to find some VV N340 for my 9mm

You might try trap and skeet ranges. They often sell kegs of shotgun (pistol) powders.

It has been discontinued for some time, but you might find some Winchester AA452 (Hodgdon Trap 100). If it's good enough for Zurek, it'll do for you.

Dupont 700X has proved excellent in several of my guns, but doesn't meter well in small charges. Alliant Red Dot is a classic .45 powder and still available.

I was hoping to duplicate the Army Marksmanship Unit load for the 45. I'm sure some retailer in Florida has a can or two of VV N310 setting on their shelves, I just don't know who they are. It appears that 4.6 grains of Bullseye does pretty well. I have a can of 700X but the large flakes, as you noted, meters poorly and can actually clog the powder drop. Thanks, dipnet

To Dipnet;
I use 4.6gr of Bullseye under a Nosler 185gr JHP Custom Competition for the long line.
The same 4.6gr under Hornady 185gr SWC jacketed button nose at the short line.
No dot adjustment between the long and short line.
Never could use such a hot load before in my old 5" at the short line but since getting back into shooting the .45 and now with a Clark Sr. heavy long slide it is like shooting 160gr at the short line...almost :)

WST not meter well? I use a Hornady lock load and once you zero it in I get under 10th standard deviation and I check my measure once every 5 bullets and it's never off.
