Anschutz Model 250 cocking lever stuck in open position

I just took my Model 250 out of storage. Tried to work the action to fire a pellet (test fire). I found that the cocking lever, once pulled to the rear would not close. I attempted to pull it to the rear several times in different positions, thinking that something would fall into place and permit the cocking lever to go forward completely. Nothing worked. Now I have the cocking lever stuck in the open position. When pulled completely to the rear (about 120 deg.) it will only move forward to about 85 degrees before it stops. This has never happened before.
I am the original owner, having purchased it during the early 70s and used it a lot in competition in Germany and the US. The rifle has not been fired in years. No rust anywhere or other damage.
I do not want to attempt disassemble it (remove the receiver assembly) from the stock) with the springs under pressure, unless there is a safe way to do so. Any suggestions as to what to do?
Thanks.
