Ransom rest applicability?

Post by RandomShotz »

I shoot at an indoor 25 yd range that has carpeting on the bench in each lane. I was wondering if a Ransom rest would be usable on that type of bench and if I would get any useful information at 25 yd. I know there is a non-linear difference in performance between the long line and the short, but is 25 yd long enough to distinguish between the best loads and merely adequate ones?

TIA

IMHO, no, but you may be able to identify some really, really lousy ones.

Agreed, the rest needs to be on a solid base - concrete or steel not wood and certainly not carpet. The distance should be at 50 yards to give you good results. There are people that swear they have loads/guns that shoot 1/4" groups at 49 yards but at 50 yards the groups open up to 3"! LOL

Well, I guess that settles that. Someone is selling one on the B-S-T forum that looked very interesting - it's in good shape and has the inserts I need - but I guess the $600 goes back in my pocket and I get to keep my alibi's.

Thanks for the quick replies -
