I saw she was 12th qualifying at Ft. Benning. She wasn't in Munich, apparently. Anyone know what the story is> Is she at odds with the new finals format or perhaps has had physical problems. Enquiring minds want to know. :)

This year Olena decided to concentrate on 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan (ignoring WC Munich and WC Granada). Three-times olympic medalist knows what she wants.
She is not alone - look at M. Emmons and many other superstars.

Interesting, but still not clear as to why she would stay away from competition at WC level.
Is she a student at present?

It is by no means unusual for countries to reduce their funding for international travel, or send slightly lower tier shooters to World Cups for experience, in the year following an Olympics.
World Cups until after the World Championships next year will not carry Olympic quota places.
The idea that top level shooters would not attend major matches because they are unhappy with whatever new rules are introduced is unrealistic I'm afraid. Olympic, World and (to a lesser extent) Continental Championship medals are what they live for.
I can imagine "waning stars" being prompted to retire by new rules, but not those at the very top.

Good explanation. Thanks. I found it difficult to believe she would be kept away by the new finals format, especially since she has made one WC appearance this year.
I'm really enjoying he new finals format. It is more often exciting than not. I do wish that ISSF in their standings display on their YouTube channel would separate out the knocked out shooters making it easier to see just what place is actually being fought for. Minor quibble, but if I'm lacking in concentration for a moment I have to do a rewind. Life can be so hard sometimes. ;)

As David has already described - WC and WCF have lower ranking than ECH, WCH ang OG (at least for shooters from ex-USSR countries). And sometimes even lower than CISM and Universiade.
Why?
They don't get any prize money for WC/WCF medal from national federations. Exception - Olympic quota (WC goal Nr. 1).
And they are rewarded for ECH, WCH, OG, CISM medals.

And I don't think that Olena has any technical problem with SP.
Here is SIUS Log (Training 2006). Rapid fire stage - 50 shots (497). Or 299 (match).

What does the Summer Universiad mean to a shooting athlete in comparison to ISSF competition that world record is recognized? I understand the importance of CISM, but I don't understand the Universiad. Is there money involved?

27th Summer Universiade is an ISSF listed competition - doubt that CISM is.
