Anyone has ever tried to take off the barrel shroud of the FWB65? I want to put barrel weight son, and that requires taking off the front sight and then the barrel shroud. I took the front sight off, but the barrel shroud is so tight I cannot get it out. Does anyone know if there a method of take it off?
I want to ask here before resorting to using a torch to torch the shroud.
Finally, the pistol in doubt is the <25000 one, which is the old one (1971); the one that I really want to take the shroud off is a 1976. (modern with adjustable rear sight window) I wonder if the 76 is a whole lot easier to remove, but i don't want to try it until the 71 is off. The 71 is the guinea pig.

C'mon Conradin, do you want that adjustable sight or not?

Its been a long time, but I think the tapered cross pin under the barrel locks the sight base to the barrel. It has to be knocked out to remove the base.

That entire front unit is off already.

I'm assuming you mean the barrel weight that's a slightly tapered sleeve that covers the whole barrel back to the front of the cylinder (except the bit where the front sight is)?
If that's the case, then I think they are heat shrunk on. I guess you are on the right track by applying some heat, problem is, the heat also goes into the barrel. Can't really offer any more help sorry.

Friend of mine is going to use a torch to test whether the 1971 FWB 65 will have its shroud came off from high heat. If not, I think I just have to give up the idea.

You might find this link useful the seller has removed the shroud has pictures (they are still accessible).
"Oh yes there is a difference. If you look carefully the barrel appears thinner in the second picture, 'cos it is. The shroud is a tapered sleeve that slides over the barrel and is held on by the foresight (and glue in my case, boy was that a bugger to shift)."
