Can someone out there tell me the outside diameter of the 22mm clear irises?

I think you have us all perplexed. The outside diameter of the 22mm clear insert is 22mm.

Well, never having had a rifle with that size sight I did not know if that measurement was for the inside or outside of the tube. OK, now is that measurement the opening through the sight or is that the measurement of the diameter of the iris insert which will be larger?

The aperture inserts for the common (Anschutz, Gehmann) 22mm sights are nominally 20mm OD.
The 22mm designation refers to the insert holder thread size which is M22X0.5
The OD of the sight housing will be larger than 22mm and the thru diameter will be nominally 18mm.
