Alternate mountings for shooting glasses frames

I have acquired a set of Champion "Olympic" frames for lenses/blinders. Despite being titanium, the frames are quite heavy for my nose (I have one of those less-plentiful noses with minimal nose bridge). I see that some other manufacturers' frames have alternatives to behind-the-ear fastening, such as headband fastening. There is still a nosepiece, for support and alignment. This is interesting, except that I don't like wearing headbands.
Has anyone tried mounting the frames to ear protectors (with the nosepiece still used)? My ear protectors are pretty snug and stable. Some sort of mounting to their compression band instead of around my ears would also avoid sound leaks. This is attractive to me because it potentially takes some load off the nosepiece. I may give this a shot sometime soon, but I was wondering if anyone had been-there-done-that and found any significant downsides or showstoppers. Might as well learn from those already unfortunate enough to try these silly ideas!
Thanks,
Kel
