Filters - what's the difference?

Hi,

I am looking at possibly buying a couple of filters for my Knobloch glasses. I recently shot at a range where the lighting was much brighter than I am used to at my local club. This prompted the filter purchase.

However, on visiting Knobloch's website they seem to have two sorts of filter - 'standard' and 'cut-off'. You can get yellow in both versions, red in bother versions etc as well as other colours. So what would be the difference? Also what does a polarizing filter do?

Any help gratefully received.

Many thanks

Mark

I have no idea what 'cut off' means. But polarisers effectively reduce glare by cutting out ligh in the wrong plane. With polarisers they usually twist so you set them up to give you the desired effect.

There are some very good lens review sites and munufacturers descriptions so try champion, gehman etc and see what they say.
