Hi guys

I have a mtm Sauer jacket which Ive had a couple of years now,When it arrived the buttons were already fitted but there was no way that I could do them up when in postion.Not even close.
I only shoot prone and if I pull the left side under my body when I get into postion it does seem to be ok and I have noted that some of the top shooters dont use buttons but is this the best option or should I be looking for a new jacket?
Thanks for the input especially if you shoot without the buttons done up.

I don't know any top shooters that don't use buttons, although some may only use one, but not many that I recall seeing.

I'd first of all try moving the buttons, if you're unable to then yes a new jacket would seem the only other option.

<edit> meant to say I shoot with the top 3 buttons done up in prone.

Ok thanks.I was sure that I seen Sergei in a couple of WC matches on Youtube where he didnt have buttons done up

I don't wear any of the buttons done up for prone either, or for kneeling. It's nice in that there's no compromise in how the jacket is set up between positions as the buttons are for standing only. I've found that even just the top button only adds tension but no additional support, since all support is already taken care of through the manufacture of the back and shoulders in prone. There aren't many at top level who leave the whole thing open, but there are a few. Personally, I just tuck the one side under me loosely and shoot away. It's certainly not the determining factor in my crappy shooting.

This is just a question but doesn't it have to be done up to pass equipment control?

If there are no buttons present on the jacket there is no overlap to test for as it cant be locked in place and tested as with a button that is fastened in place

Most Russian shooters keep the buttons free in prone. But be aware, this only works if the jacket fits perfect around the shoulders. The shoulders should prevent the jacket from moving.
Change the buttons by means of trial and error. It's something personal.

Yeah, there's a few fullbore shooters (who shoot prone-only) who don't bother with the buttons. They've usually bought a prone-only jacket, but it can be done with a general purpose/3P jacket, so long as it fits well over the shoulders.
