I shoot standing air rifle and I have been considering using a front sight extension tube or moving my front sight base forward. Is there a minimum score to attain with the standard equipment set up before considering this option? Are there any noticeable benefits to this change? Any advise is appreciated.

Some of the top shooters use extention tubes but many don't. Extending the barrel with a tube will give you a longer sight base but the negative product of this is the percieved target picture through your front sight will appear to move about more and less steady. In other words, any unsteadiness you have will be exagerated by the longer sight base. Some shooters shorten the sight base for this reason.

If you can hold the rifle very steady then try the tube out, it can be more precise than the standard length if you are capable of being motionless at shot release.

I would say 550's. After you can hit this number you should consider a sight extension.
