I have just purchased an M540XR. I have no real experience with rifles (have been shooting AP and Bullseye). I don't think I will complete but I love seeing how small a hole I can make.

Can anyone tell me what I can expect from the gun?

Thanks.

Have not seen a 540X in decades but from what I remember if you worked with them they would get to about a nickel size five shot group at 50 yards. This assumes you are shooting a decent target grade ammo.

They are capable of cleaning an A-23 target.

From today's field there is no telling what brand of ammo a 540X would like best.

I had one way back in the 1980s. The rifle shot pretty well - my prone scores were comparable with anyone else in the area - but the trigger was sketchy and the stock didn't quite fit for positions. If you're going to use this rifle as a high-quality plinking arm, I think you'll be delighted. It will suit you well if you shoot a prone match now and again (as a diversion, I mean, rather than as a hard-core contender.) For 3P work, it's really a beginner's rifle that you'll soon outgrow.
