Broke my AW93 this weekend

I fired my first sighting shot in a rapid fire competition and the slide of my Feinwerkbau AW93 snapped in two.
I am guessing that there was a bit of fouling binding the slide. I sprayed some lubricant on the gun before the match (which was the first time that i have done that, usually just put a bit of gun oil on slide surface). I am guessing that the spray (INOX) may have collected the dirt into one place and built a roadblock.
Anyhow I now have a 2 month waiting period to get a new slide imported, unless anyone here knows anyone in Australia that has one handy.
I'll try to post a picture of the break tomorrow

I'm sorry to hear about that slide failure. But could you please let us know in what year was your AW93 manufactured? Also, could you upload some pictures for us to see? I actually heard of a slide failure before, but I can't remember the year of manufacture of that AW93. Eventually, how much are they charging you for the new slide?

What ammo were you using?
I've seen a guy break two slides in reasonably quick succession with high velocity ammo.
If you've only used good ammo, I'd suggest they should replace it free!

The gun is about 7 years old or so..
Ammo used was Federal 711b gold medal. No high velocity ammo used at all.
not sure how to get these photos to load.

They let you upload pictures on this server:
http://www.imageshack.us/ They give you links to post back here after uploading the pictures.
Maybe there's an even easier way of doing this, but I'm not aware of it.

You're welcome, Pakman!
Your pics turned out just great!
Have you considered sending those snapshots to the people at Feinwerkbau as well?

It certainly sounds like they should give you a spare slide for free.

The more important pictures are to blurry to tell, but I would guess you have a material failure in the slide in which case they should give you a new slide.

Update -
It is going to cost me $400 AUD to get a new slide.
I have to send the piece with the serial number back to the dealer in Melbourne , who has to send it to FWB in Germany, who will put the same serial number onto a new slide and send it back.
This is expected to take about 6 weeks, but with govt paperwork it could be longer.
I am using my son's Morini cm22 for now (damn thing seems to only like CCI std). oh well beggers can't be choosers.

They don't offer a free replacement?
If it's not a clear pistol bug, what else?
My 0.02.

The pictures aren't anywhere near good enough to see if there was a fault in the metal. Even if there is, I'm not sure how many manufacturers would offer a free replacement on a gun that's 7 years old.
Claiming a design fault might also be a bit difficult on a gun this old.

From my perspective, "industry standard" is that the manufacturer/distributor fixes any gun unless it was abused by the owner. There are even some manufacturers that pretty much fix anything even if the fault of the owner (Springfield Armory comes to mind and I recall a case where a SA owner had a brand new 1911 accidentally fall from a backpack on a motorcycle and skid down the highway, and SA repaired and refinished the damage for free).
The only "mainstream" manufacturer that likewise treats customers as badly as in the one in this thread is Walther. I understand that there's really not much competition or a huge market for a pistol as expensive as an AW93, but I don't think that's much of an excuse for FWB not standing behind its product. The defect shown isn't wear.

what brand of ammunition and how many in 7 years?
one match (70 rounds) a week for 7 years works out around 24000-25000 (hate to think how many my 'vintage' 208 has had through it)

I have had very good experiences with US and Euro firearms manufacturers. The ones I've dealt with are focused on customer satisfaction and bend-over-backwards to guard their reputations. I've heard through the gravevine that German companies take a "my way or the highway" attitude for the most part. US firearms manufacturers mostly sell their products to the average Joe who can't afford to pay a couple of thousand dollars for a product and expect it to last forever without any major failures. Maybe the elite gun manufacturers have a different clientele who can afford a repair that meets the price of many run-of-the-mill firearms sold to the masses. Maybe these folks never squawk. Maybe it is a cultural thing, but any way I look at it, it looks to me that the OP is getting ripped.
I know that international-style shooting sports in the US aren't very popular. Only folks with deep pockets or sponsors can afford to get seriously involved in them. With some elite firearms manufacturers not backing up major failures of their products, but instead soaking their customers for repair costs, I can't see potential competitors wanting to jump into the water, because the water ain't fine.

I received my new slide today. $374 AUD.
I have not shot it yet.
I may still have a problem though. when I release the slide the extractor rubs against the top of the magazine and sometimes stops the slide from fully closing.
Anyone had this problem and if so how did you fix it?
I could try filing down the magazine lip a touch.
I'll ask the dealer tomorrow.
Cheers,
Pakman
ps. my old slide was the nickle finish but this new one is in black (apparently they do not make the nickle ones any more), I would not have thought there would be any difference in size

Good thing it wasn't a MG2, or the experts would be queuing up again...

looking at the problem again and it may not be the extractor that is rubbing but the bottom of the slide.
I am not keen on shooting it in this condition in case it snaps again.
I'm a bit worried about interfering with the magazine in case I introduce feeding problems
any suggedtions?

Take it back to the dealer or a gunsmith if you're unsure.
