Benelli MP90S Trigger Adjustment for Single Stage?

Post by Gwhite »

I have a Benelli that I shot in a bulleye league for a number of years with a crisp 2-stage trigger. There is some take up at about 1 pound, and then the trigger stops until you exceed 2 pounds at which point it fires. I did this by adjusting screw C so that the second stage kicks in just before the sear releases.

I've now got a Pardini SP which has a smooth single stage trigger. My wife shoots a Pardini as well, with a similar trigger.

My youngest step-daughter is now shooting the Benelli, and after trying my wife's pistol, she has asked that I convert the trigger to a similar single stage feel. I've done that, but there are two ways of doing it, and I'm not sure if the other way is better. The options are:

1) Screw in C until the "second stage" starts at the beginning of the trigger pull. Now the trigger is pulling against both the spring inside Screw C and the spring in front of Screw A. That is the way it is now, and it works OK.

2) Back Screw C out so that it never makes contact witht the trigger at all. Then increase the tension with Screw A to get the trigger pull up to a proper level.

After I had used approach 1), it occured to me that there are fewer parts involved in approach 2), and it would potentially be a little smoother. However, I wasn't sure how much adjustment range there is to bring the trigger pull back up to 2 pounds if only Screw A is used.

Does anyone have any experience in this area? If your MP90 is set up with a single stage trigger, you should be able to see which way it was done by looking at the trigger adjustment screws. If the top one is backed out so that it never touches the trigger, that is 2).

Thanks!
