Olympic Gold in Air and Free: Has It Been Done?

Has anyone ever won the gold medal in both men's air pistol and free pistol at the same Olympic games? I know that it's common for shooters to compete in both events, but my google-fu isn't strong enough to discover whether or not anyone has ever won double gold that way.

No not yet!
50m pistol has been olympic discipline since 1896, but 10m pistol since 1988 and Kiriakov (BUL) is the only guy that have olympic gold in both disciplines. Gold 10m 1988 and gold 50m 2000.
Nestruev (RUS) was close to achieve gold in both in 2004, silver in 10m and gold in 50m.

What about DiDonna from Italy and Wang YuFu from China?

Ok! Wang was first with coming so close in 1992 with gold 10m and silver 50m. And then Nestruev in 2004 with silver and gold.
DiDonna wasn`t as close with gold and bronze in 1996... but that is of course anyway an amazingly good performance.

Forget about future opportunities - it's a long time since Free Pistol was an Olympic event.

That's bad, even for you Spencer ;-)
Have you noticed the event abbreviation the ISSF use in parentheses after the main event name in the list of World Records; it's FP.
