Today and tomorrow, the nation's best high school JROTC Cadets are competing in the National JROTC Air Rifle Championship at Fort Benning, Georgia. You can watch live results from this competition on the CMP website now at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/report_m ... tchID=2819.
The cadets in this Championship qualified through a series of postal and shoulder-to-shoulder matches that started with 6,000 competitors from over 1,100 schools. The the best of these are competing at Fort Benning. All competitors will fire three-position air rifle courses of fire both today and tomorrow. Each afternoon, the top eight individuals will fire a ten-shot final. Individual and team championship awards will be presented at a festive awards banquet on Saturday evening.
The CMP is conducting this competition on U. S. Army Marksmanship Unit Ranges. The competition began at 9:00 AM this morning. Three relays are firing today. Today's individual sporter class final is scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM; the precision class final will begin at approximately 5:15. The same three relays will fire again tomorrow, but in reverse order. The individual precision final starts tomorrow at 3:30 PM, with the sporter final starting at approximately 4:15.
