You have a very good point. Rule (table) 8.16.0 is badly worded. It actually says that the weight of an air pistol must be 1500g. It should say the MAXIMUM weight is 1500g. You can be lighter.

Rule 8.16.0 is a nightmare for the ISSF. In the 2001 rules (up to and including the 3rd printing) all values in the table were declared as maximums. This was fine for pistol weight but if applied strictly as written meant that, for example, Standard Pistol trigger weights had to be under 1000g.

Yes that rule clarifies the position in the 2005 rules regarding trigger weight but that was never in doubt. It does nothing to clarify the the position on total pistol weight.

It's equivalent in the 2001 rules was 8.4.2.4.2.1 but, by using the word "minimum", it was at variance with with 8.16.0 which in the first 3 printings used the word "maximum". If the stated trigger weight was both minimum and maximum then you had to have a trigger weighing exactly the stated value. We all know that wasn't what was meant but it was an example of very sloppy rule drafting by the ISSF.
