I want to learn more about RF.
Please describe where the eye is looking during the ready and raise to fire.

Is the USAS rulebook available to purchase? I see it on their net. Is there a need for the NRA International Pistol rulebook?

I am having a poor time navigating the USAS pagees just to try to join. Arrgh!

I try and look three quarters to the target i.e. about 15-20 feet and try and get my gaze there 5-10 secs before the raise. On the raise I switch onto the foresight, probably mid raise.

I don't know what the 'proper' technical answer is apart from don't try and align the sights whilst at 45 degrees.

I'll add something a little bit contradictory here. I find that I have to align my sights while down at the 45 degree hold point. Once I've ensured I have the correct forearm/wrist angle established and the sights aligned, I follow the same process as previously mentioned. Eyes focus on the ground about 2/3 of the way to the target, pick the sights up as the gun is raised. This seems to work fairly well.

I keep my eye on the green light/bottom of the target and drop it only slightly (to the ground at the base of the targets or so) to pick up the sights as they come into the aiming area. Trying to drop my eyes more than that A)makes me disoriented and B)slows me down.

Training yourself to have the sights already aligned when your eyes pick them up is more important than whether or not they're aligned in the ready position.

Does anyone have a picture of the lights in action? I have never seen a proper RF setup. Lots of pix would be good. I can learn more from a picture than the way too technical rules. All I need are a pix and measurements which I mostly have already.We have a pretty decent 50' turning rack, but nothing yet for 25yds or metres. I may as well try to make the 25 as proper as I can. And it will be crude.

If you align your sights at 45deg you will need to change your wrist angle during the raise.

Better to align the sights on the target, then lower your arm keeping your wrist locked as far as possible.

I find it easiest to watch just below the target, then drop the eyes to pick up the sights halfway during the raise

If you're thinking of using the 50' turning rack, even on a temporary basis, check the spacing between the targets. I suspect it's way off from regulation, which will do you more harm than good- establishing a rhythm is half the key to RF, and a non-standard spacing will get your mind and body set in a rhythm that just won't work on the real thing. My recommendation is instead of trying to engineer a compex turning target or light system, just find a simple way to hang the five targets at the proper height, spacing, & distance, and get a shooting timer like the PACT Mark IV to time yourself with. (With a shooting timer you'll know if you got that last shot off in time, which a light system won't tell you unless you go all out and incorporate a microphone system, and now you're getting really complex.)

we already have a pretty decent 50' rack made up. I believe it is the proper 18" spacing. Come dryer weather in Oregon? I plan to make up a 25 yd or metre rack for outdoors on our bullseye range. It will have to be portable. I have not yet got into this far enough to have definite plans for either lights or turning system. I guess the official setups have a light system that I know nothing about. Never even seen one. I do think the turning targets would be more dramatic than any light system ever thought of being. Translate=fun.

We already determined the 25m spacing is .75m. The 25yd space will be 27". If I recall the height relative to the firing point is 1.4m.
