Top 100 Leg Match Scores for 2005 - With the start of the new year, all scores from 2005 leg matches should be reported, posted and ranked. This means it is possible to recognize the shooters who fired the top service rifle and pistol scores during the past year. The CMP’s Competition Tracker competition management system now tracks top 100 scores from service rifle and pistol Excellence-in-Competition or “leg” matches throughout the year and lists of the 2005 Top 100 leg match scores are now essentially complete.

2006-2007 CMP Scholarship for JROTC and ROTC Rifle Shooters - Being part of a JROTC or ROTC rifle team is not only a good way for a cadet to gain the tools needed to bring them success in college such as character, discipline and responsibility; competitive shooting can also help provide the financial means needed to attend college. One way a cadet can receive money for college is to earn a rifle scholarship on an NCAA Rifle team. A second opportunity for a cadet to earn a college rifle scholarship is through the Civilian Marksmanship Scholarship Program for JROTC and ROTC rifle shooters.

New Shooters on Winning National

Trophy Pistol and Rifle Teams. The CMP continues to work to uncover more of the fascinating history of the National Matches. In what has to be a rare and extremely significant accomplishment, the CMP recently discovered that two current marksmen have the distinction of having been the new shooter or “tyro” on teams that won both the Pistol and Rifle National Trophy Team Matches. CW4 Albert B. Wood, USAR, was the new shooter on the USAR Rifle Team that won the National Trophy in 1992 and the USAR Pistol Team that won the Gold Cup in 2004.

CW2 Billy Ray Williamson, USMC, (pictured above) was the new shooter on the USMC Rifle Team that won the National Trophy Rifle Team Match in 1989 and the USMC Pistol Team that won the National Trophy Pistol Team Match in 2005. Both shooters obviously are Double Distinguished. If Shooter’s News readers know of other shooters who achieved the rare distinction of being the new shooter on two winning National Trophy Teams, they are asked to contact celder@odcmp.com with details.
