how long have semi auto pistols been used in Olympics?

I have been asked the following question I cannot answer:
Do you know how long semi-automatic pistols have been used in the Olympics?
Can you provide a citation that supports the facts?
Can anyone help me answer it?

I don't know if it helps but the
Olympic Medalists 1896-2000 list shows that there was a Rapid Fire Pistol event in 1896.
Whether this was shot with a semi-auto is another matter.

since the 1896 broomhandle mauser is touted as the first succesful semi auto, I'm guessing that revolvers were used early on...
I think I saw a photo of that hungarian guy who competed right handed before WWII and then won a gold left handed after WWII holding a semi auto pistol, don't recall which hand he held the gun in in the photo.
