Are Pistol Air Cylinders Interchangable?

Post by tmac »

The air cylinders on my Benelli Kite leak! I'm on my third, and although the dealer has been super about replacing them, this is getting old. Two leaked horribly straight out of the box from the guage end, while the third leaked very slowly from the rim of the attachment end. Yes, they are being filled slowly off a 200BAR scuba tank w/adapter. Are the cylinders interchangable with other brands?

In a word - no

Each uses its own threading and diameters. Only the Anschutz and Steyr enjoy interchangeability. That is due to the fact they are basically the same guns. Even between some models of the same brand there are differences.

Standards would be great - but I doubt if we will see this happening.

It's even worse than that. I had a spare Morini cylinder that would fit the pistol OK, but not the filling adapter. I tried it on another filling adapter, and it just wouldn't thread all the way on. The cylinder that came with the pistol was fine. I had to send the spare back for a replacement, which fits just fine. Apparently the tolerances were just far enough out of whack to bind up.
