Emmons Wins Silver in 3P Event at World Cup Final

MUNICH, Germany – Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center resident athlete Matt Emmons (Browns Mills, NJ) won a silver medal in his first event at the World Cup Final in Munich, today. Emmons shot a 1,175 qualifying round to enter the final in second, just behind Sergei Kovalenko, of Russia. Emmons then shot a 97.3 to clinch his place on the medal stand with a 1,272.3 total score. Kovalenko finished on top, with a 1,275.6, while his Russian teammate, Artem Khadjibekov finished in third with a 1,270.2.



The World Cup Final features the top-8 World Cup shooters from the current season (generally gold and silver World Cup medalists); the current Olympic Champs and the previous year’s World Cup Final gold medalists.



The International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) officially invited five U.S. Rifle shooters to the 2005 World Cup Finals: Sgt. First Class Tom Tamas (Columbus, Ga.), Sgt. First Class Jason Parker (Fortson, Ga.), Ryan Tanoue (Honolulu, Hawaii), U.S. Naval Reservist Eric Uptagrafft (Longmont, Colo.) and 2004 Olympic gold medalist Matt Emmons. Emmons was the only U.S. shooter to compete in men’s three-position rifle.
