FORT BENNING, Ga. - Spc. Matthew T. Wallace of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit and Maj. Dominic Grazioli of the U.S. Air Force Reserve both took home medals for the U.S. Shotgun Team Aug. 10 in Men’s Trap at the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in Americana, Brazil.
Wallace and Grazioli, along with Russia’s Pavel Gurkin, all finished with a 144 total score, putting them in a three-way tie for second place. Gurkin was out after missing the first target, making it easy on the Americans. Grazioli finished with a two in the shoot-off, getting the Bronze Medal, and Wallace hit three and took home the Silver. The Gold Medal and country quota spot went to Russia’s Alexey Alipov, who finished with a 146.
A native of Stanton, Tenn., Wallace graduated from Covington High School of Covington, Tenn., in 2001. He then joined the Army and after completing Basic Training and Infantry Training at Fort Benning he was assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Shotgun Team April 19, 2002.
Wallace, who started shooting in 1997, has numerous marksmanship accomplishments. He is the 2005 National Men’s Trap Silver Medalist, the 2004 ARMUSA Cup Winner and Ohio State Champion, the 2003 Junior World Championship Team Member and National Junior Trap Silver Medalist, the 2002 Junior Olympic Trap Gold Medalist, the 2001 Junior National Trap Champion and Junior Olympics International Trap Bronze Medalist and the 2000 Junior National Trap Silver Medalist and Junior Olympics Trap Gold Medalist. He is single and lives at Fort Benning.
Grazioli, a resident of San Antonio, Texas, was the Gold Medalist and Olympic Quota Slot winner at 2002 World Cup Santo Domingo. In 2001, he won the Gold Medal at the World Cup Brazil, the Silver Medal at the World Cup Korea and the Bronze Medal in the World Cup Final, Doha, Qatar.
