Hi all,
Can anyone recommend some good books on pistol shooting that would help a novice?

You might want to also look at the suggestions from a similar request I posted back at the beginning of the year.

One of the best books, and it's free
Hi,
One book I have found is very good is the PISTOL MARKSMANSHIP TRAINING GUIDE printed by the United States Army Marksmanship Unit. It's written for the NRA style bullseye but it contains so much information that it can help any type shooter. The online version can be found at: http://www.bullseyepistol.com/amucover.htm or you can order a printed copy from the CMP at: http://estore.odcmp.com/store/catalog/catalog.aspx It has a different title on the CMP site, Advanced pistol guide.
Good reading and better shooting,
Tom

For online resources not mentioned so far, I will suggest :

"Pistol Marksmanship Guide" is very good book. The paper version is not so expensive. It is also avialibe on amazon.com.
My favorite is "Competitive shooting" from A.Jurjev. I even didn't know that existed an english translation since I found information on this forum. You can also found second hand book on amazon.com
For all curious and able to read russian, there is an online version at :

The NRA in the USA had only six copies of Competitive Shooting by A. Yur'yev left when I enquired earlier this year. There are a few copies floating around secondhand via the internet. I managed to pick up a hardback version here in Australia for around $A50, including shipping costs.
The NRA indicated that they would not be reprinting the English version of the the book.

Shooting books
Bluechucky - I was at Melb. Open comp, too!!
Have you thought about checking out the VAPA Fund Raising Table as they have some shooting books available. See the back page of Vic Pistol.
I suggest the following, if you can get them:
1)Mental Training for Shooting Success, by Richard L. Domey.
2)Pistol shooting, Forward by Marv Epling, Special article by Frank Briggs. (Skanager's book)
3) Competitive Shooting by A.A.Yur'yev. This is the English translation, and deals with Pistol & Rifle.
4)Competitive Pistol shooting by Dr. Laslo Antal.
Some are ok for reading, but you might not learn too much if you are a new shooter. However, there are a lot of new ideas, techniques, etc. in them.
Perhaps we will see you at Warrnambool, - if you are there.
