John: Reading what you said more carefully and seeing the high powers of your air rifle, the tin pellets probably do well for a couple reasons. Your rifle power should upset pellet skirt and force the pellet to engage the rifling better than the lower power and smaller diameter of my .177 pellet. When I could retrieve pellets, the non-lead tin pellets were less deformed and the rifling marks were less pronounced.
Second the velocities are probably in the 900f/s range that is closer to optimum for air rifle pellets.
The tin may want a cleaner bore than the much softer lead requires.
Sounds like you have a good thing going there.
