If one takes the "Neurobion forte", can one be assured that it is just B complex vitamins and won't have some unlabelled chinese stimulant that's going to cause me to fail a pee test?
It appears that taking too much will cause gastric distress. No signs of it causing liver failure. Prob not good if you are an alcoholic.

I am more concerned with the group on whitch the ezperiment was conducted. The Modern Penthalon athletes were in my experience some of the poorest shooters ever assembled on one range and were constantly searching for a magic win pill as a short cut to success. To the best of my knowledge they never found the correct pill. On one occasion two very experienced NRA three gun shooters were invited to shoot with the pentathaletes over their course of fire. Both shot 200 s [ the max score ] and the highest score by the pentathaletes was 191. Surely a more suitable group could have been found to conduct this test.. Good Shooting Bill Horton

I'm not surprised that the potential of B vitamins for improving scores has some appeal. But I want to emphasize that the paper ended up proving nothing and the study was not followed up. In other words, the "B Vitamin effect" has the status of hearsay or anecdotal data: no validation of any sort. On the other hand, the potential for undesirable effects, while not great, is sufficient to prompt a consultation with your doctor before you go ahead. Finally, consider what would happen if you found yourself running out and unable to find the supplement before a match. Even if it were a placebo, you would feel so insecure that you might as well not show up!

Ricardo is absolutely correct about this study. It proved nothing as the sample size was too small and the results were not significant in the sense that there was a statistically significant difference between the control group and the test group.
It doesn't make any difference if the shooters were not at the elite level either, in fact it is probably better that they were not as any improvement would probably show up with these shooter better since elite level shooters would not leave much room for improvement.
Pills don't seem to make much of a difference in shooting sports, even the ones that decrease tremor such as beta blockers. Back in the early '80s when the Soviet block shooters were using beta blockers it was discovered that while the Beta blockers did decrease tremor, they also decreased the ability of the shooters to improve, probably due to the beta blocking itself. As a result the Russians were one of the prime actors in getting them banned with the result of western shooters increasing the use of beta blockers for a while until they discovered what the Russians already knew, namely that more intense training was better for improvement and that beta blockers set you back at the highest levels.
Vit B complexes are OK for general health. They probably won't harm you at recommended levels and the placebo effect can often be impressive. But if they really worked as hoped, you can bet that a BigPharm company would be selling their patented formula based on scientific data (which they paid for) and that is not the case here.

B vitamins are essential to human health, as they are integral to numerous body functions. Vitamins B-1, B-6 and B-12 are just a few B vitamins your body needs. All B vitamins are water-soluble, so your body will not store them. For this reason, make sure you obtain enough of these vitamins through your diet. Speak to your doctor to determine if you have a deficiency.

The problem with Vitamin B, and why some folks develope a deficiency, is that they are not easily absorbed. So you might EAT plenty in your food, but still not get/retain enough. The best way to correct a deficiency is with injections and next in line would be sublingual drops. You can get a bottle of drops for around $6 at wally world. FWIF, elite National caliber endurance athletes are often given daily B-12 injections. My doctor has me giving myself monthly shots. When you are dedicient, the first shot is like a double espresso, you FEEL it. Once your levels are up, maintaining is not such a kick in the pants, but just cheap insurance.
