Hi Joe
Cut what I'm discussing. Here in Wichita KS I was TOLD that the Kansas Trap Association was unwilling to put up any money to lobby for concealed carry because you can't carry a shotgun, and they only shoot Single Barrel trap guns anyway. The KTA IS an NRA organization (they have a plaque). The Arkansas Valley Skeet club did put up a few hundred, but I don't know that the club is in fact associated with the NRA. In my limited experience hanging out at the Trap club, most of the members only discuss trap, and have little or no interest in anything else (except maybe beer). SOOOO, I wouldn't bet your way on the shotgun boys, I would bet the way you do otherwise...

Are you ready to acknowledge that a significant number of shooting sports are prospering w/o the need to have the NRA run their sport?
I would bet that the overwhelming majority of the membership of the Amateur Trap Association, National Skeet Shooting Association, National Sporting Clays Association, International Defensive Pistol Association, North-South Skirmish Association, International Practical Shooting Confederation, International Benchrest Shooting Association, and Single Action Shooting Society are also NRA members.
I still see no connection between NRA sanctioning and growth/survival. In fact, I see quite a bit of evidence to the contrary.
Perhaps the difference might be that most (if not all) of the organizations you listed were formed independently of the NRA and have never been associated with the NRA as a governing body. They never relied on the NRA for any sort of structure, organization, or publicity. This cannot be said of the ISSF sports and I don't think it can be said of high power and bullseye either.

Sparky, outside of the National Matches, the NRA provides precious little in the way of structure, organization, or publicity.
What they do for the average club holding a season of approved matches can easily be done by any independent organization with very little effort.
Even what they do for the Nationals can be accomplished by an independent organization given sufficient financing. It's not like it takes some talent that is available only within the NRA.

About says it all.............
As I said before, the NRA sucks up money and provides little in return. An independent organization whose SOLE mission is the support of highpower can operate with a lot smaller overhead structure, meaning a higher percentage of dues collected going back to promote the sport.

Yep, they suck up the money to buy politicians and if they didn't have your money, you'd be shooting an "03 Springfield in the National matches cause your AR-15, M1A1, and M1 Garand would ALL BE ILLEGAL. Do you honestly think that the silly "assault weapon ban" would have gone off into the sunset without the NRA??? Yes I realize that my 1911 would go away too....

Why can you not separate membership in the NRA and NRA sanctioning of a particular sport? They are two entirely different things.
Go back and read the entire thread. Particularly the post where I stated that I am a lifetime NRA member.
In deference to our host, this is my last post. It seems there is a certain crowd that cannot craft an objective argument. Instead they rely on strawmen and emotion.
