new rear sight for 853/953?

Post by GaryN »

With the new rifles and sights on the market, and with the Gamo rear sight gone, what is currently the best (reasonably priced) rear sight for the Daisy 853 and 953 for casual competition?

I remember people at one time were recommending the Crossman sight, but the pics I've seen of the Air Arms, Crossman, Daisy Avanti, and Weihrauch HW50 Diopter Sight, and they sure look the same, and interestingly...they are the same price (at Pyramid Air). So are they all the same problematic Chinese made sight?

Any word on the AirForce Edge rear sight. Although by the price difference w and w/o the rear sight, the rear sight is $130. And that would be a bit high for me.

thanks

I don't know if it is any real big secret, but at Pyramyd Air, the "Crosman Precision Diopter Sights", P/N: CR-G397T-011 is a Rear and front sight set that when I ordered them in March '08 were a genuine GAMO set of sights

At $60, a real sweet deal

Pyramid is out

Pyramid is out of the Crossman sights.
The big question is what will the backorder sights be Gamo or the problematic Chinese sights.

Bill, did you get the real Gamos or the Chinese Daisy ones?

Did Daisy improve the Chinese copies after the initial problems?

Pyramid did not indicate how long before the back order might be filled. Although their site says expected in stock 7/18/08.

So we shall see what arrives from them.

For Guest I'm not . sure what they are but there doesn't seem to be any backlash and the clicks are precice . The sights are being sold as Air Arms Products with no markings on them. They are being delivered with the Air Arms S200. Good Shooting Bill Horton

Latest I have is Pyramid is expecting the sights to arrive end of the month, which is in a few days. Then I'll see what they ship to me.

The sights from Pyramid arrived, and they are indeed GAMO sights. :-)

They are packaged in boxes with "made in Spain" on them.
I don't know how the Chinese made ones feel, but the detents on the elevation and windage knobs feel solid.

They were ordered as "Crossman Precision Diopter Sights" part number CR-G397T-011

From my experience.....

"Older" Gamos have an oval on top with a "Gamo" in the oval
"Newer" (just as good) Gamo's have the oval, but no lettering in them

The Chinese sights have no oval at all

My guess is you got the newer Gamos ... great deal, huh?

One day I'll get photos of all three types posted

re the oval
Did you mean when looking down from the top, it is on the bottom rail that attaches to the rifle, and forward of the vertical sight mechanism.
If so, then yes, mine is an oval w/o any text in it.

I think I'm happy, now that I have a decent sight to put on my 953.

I just noticed, Pyramid raised the price up to $100 for the Crossman Gamo sights.

Well it was probably about time ... They must have gone thru their stock and re-ordered.

Two years ago I was paying $95 for just the rear sight from Brenzovich. When I found out about the Pyramid price (here on TT) I ordered 8 sets it was such a good deal.

I've got an 887 coming from Daisy next week (attention all ... prices of those go up next month) so we'll see if the stock china sights are getting any better.

I wonder if anyone has yet to fire an AirForce Edge and done any testing on their rear sight? $100 for a gamo, versus $149 for the edge sight ..... may need a look

With the $60 to $100 price increase, I should have bought more than 2 of the Crossman/Gamo sights, but 2 is all I need...for now.

I wonder who makes the Air Arms rear sight?
That one is still $60.

Maybe you could have them take photo of the top???

My guess is that it's the china sight... the only one that I know they had that was a Gamo was that Crosman combo

I forgot about this thread.
Here is a pix of the gen-2 Gamo sight.
The red outline shows the oval without Gamo embossed in it.
