There is already another thread over in the lounge on this subject, they also used wrestling and boxing too. Personally I really don't think it reflects anything on the sport, it has more to do about China and the Olympics than target shooting, boxing or wrestling.

Don't be naive. The group/person who developed the ad could have chosen a rifle. Or a fencing foil. This is a sophisticated ad and can/will be used to incite people who want to eliminate private ownership of firearms. And we know that getting rid of handguns is the prime focus of these groups.

A more accurate/useful ad would have shown the athlete firing on government thugs sent to murder a family of political "undesirables". . .

No they couldn't because the chosen means of execution in China is a bullet to the back of the head from a pistol, not chopping their head of with a sword, so it wouldn't have made any sense. Now if it was Iran, or some other Muslim country, then the sword would make sense.

The ad has nothing to do with shooting sports it has to do with China's Human Rights abuses.

Lets follow your argument if its against pistols , the reaction they want is what "lets ban pistols because Chinese athletes are killing people with them". How do the wrestling and boxing fall into this arguement?

The arguement is we shouldn't be rewarding China with the Olympics when they are killing their citizens. It also has to do with China getting ready for 2008 by getting rid of any disidents, just like in North America when we round up the homeless and hide them when the circus come to town (but we don't kill them).

Not a problem Fred, I've been called worse, just that these things tend to go down hill fast as people have emotional arguements, just read the MG2 threads.

But like was said earlier no matter if you agree or disagree with them, the ads are serving their purpose because we are talking about them.

From pure artistic standpoint they have managed to produce a powerful ad.
