Cleaning a 0.22 Caliber (SW 41)

In addition to AP I also shoot a 22 C pistol, a S&W 41.

I am getting mixed message on how frequently should one clean a 0.22. The NRA in their pistol class said clean after every shooting or, if you shoot frequently, clearn ever 3 weeks or so.

Other shooters and the gun smith who sold it to me and takes care of it when it acts up (in frequently) says run a bore snake through it once every 500 shots and clean and oil the more visible parts of the gun.

Any advice?

I agree with that assessment---run a bore snake through with a couple of drops of a bore cleaner and scrub the chamber with a bent .22 brass or bronze brush. Get a magazine chamber brush and scrub in there as well, toothbrush to the face of the bolt---a wee bit of oil on the moving parts before a match. This stuff doesn't have to be done all the time---but it take a few seconds before a match---you want to reduce the possibilities of an alibi run---which 41's and their stovepipes can produce.
