it seems like Schumanns pistol gains more and more weight without showing any results

Hmm... not showing any results? Ralf took silver and had 585p in qualification. In my eyes thats a damn good result. But you are right about his pistol - it has gained even more weight... :-)

Btw, it seams that both Ralf and that finnish guy uses some sort of lubrication on the magasine/bullet before putting it in the pistol. Does anyone know why they do that?

b) Rumours are going round that his Pardini won't make the V0-test without lubrication. 3-2-1-Ignition!

Alexei Klimov (my friend) is using russian MZ-57 (very old model) - it was an obsolete pistol until January 2005 (new rapid fire pistol rules started). This is what Russian National pistol coach Aleksander Suslov told me. I was trying this pistol couple of times. The weakest part is firing pin - it breaks every 500-1000 rounds... Alexei Klimov is very good shooter. I would say he can shoot good from any pistol. the only reason why they use this model is because they can get all the support and maintenance on that.

I have to disagree with you on Ralf's motive of dabbing a drop of oil on the bullet before inserting the magazine into the gun. I have a German National Team training video that I bought back in the early 90's that showed Ralf doing the same thing with his OSP before starting his string. I don't recall UIT had min. velocity req. back in the day. :-) I'm guessing that it's just an old habit of his to make sure the gun cycles properly since most .22 short cartridged RFP's were notorious for malfunctioning (even OSP's jams every now and then). Ralf probably figured it wouldn't hurt to do the same with .22LR Std. Pistols. Better to be safe than sorry so he thought.

You're right about the .22 short, or at least we agree about that. The rumour about the .22 LR V0 is pretty new, though. And it wasn't started by me, I heard it from german national team shooters. Still doubts about credibility? Remember that he got a DQ in Fort Benning 2005, for lack of speed... And if you check out the videos of the WC's 2005/2006, you see that Ralf's pistol spits fire at the first two shots, but not afterwards. Accident? You still betting on the habit theory?

I tried the dab of oil trick after seeing Schumann doing it (back in the .22short days) and all it did for me was to make more smoke with the first shot!

Was just for a bit of a laugh really.

At the risk of opeing up old wounds, its certainly interesting to contrast the boat anchor used by Ralf Schumann with the wand-like Russian pistols.

Just noticed where most RF shooters put their trigger finger. They seem to pull the trigger with the second phalanx of their finger. Does anyone have experience with this? Does it help to minimise movement of the gun during release?
