Need shooting eye doctor in Greater Washington area
After 15 years, I need to get a new pair of glasses - and since I have a set of Knoblock frames, I figure on getting a pistol shooting prescription as well. Does anyone know of a shooter-friendly eye doctor in the Washington area? Preferably somewhat south of DC? I know that there is an eye doctor who works with the Marine Corps team. Thanks.
If you cannot find an Eye Doctor find somewhere that sells cheap reading glasses (in britain you can get these for a couple of quid) if you know what your reading diopter is then you are looking for something in the -0.5 range of your prescription. if you don't know then try them on and see how they are for a few dollars you cannot go too wrong
as these glasses are generally plastic they are easy to file down simply print out a circle on a sticky label (to the size of your shooting frames) and place this on one side of the lens then put a blank label on the other side
once you know the correct size - go to any optician/eye doctor and get a glass lens proffesionally cut for your glasses

The lens strength for pistol shooting is normally slightly positive from your normal prescription rather than slightly negative from your reading prescription. It is much better however, as initially suggested, to get a proper shooting prescription from an optometrist/optician who knows about pistol shooting.batty (not logged in) wrote:.....if you know what your reading diopter is then you are looking for something in the -0.5 range of your prescription............

I would NEVER shoot with a glass lens unless I was also using safety glasses over the top (not ideal). I would always use a high quality (which means expensive) plastic lens with a non-reflective coating.
This is just another plug for some "eye" information at my site, from a BE Master class shoooter who is also an eye professional. The first item in his articles is a six page "Guide" for fellow eye colleagues covering all the items of interest to competitive shoooters. The guide itself is also available as a .pdf file with a link at the beginning of the section. Dr. Wong's page is at:

If not then my apologies. The line started "When you need 4.75 diopters of correction......"
