We are the sole agents for Matchguns in Australia. So far, all instances of first round misfeads for pistols we have sold come down to one of four things.
Firstly, Matchguns recommend a bedding in period of 500 to 1000 rounds before the gun can be depended upon in competition. They are a very tightly toleranced gun, and do take some time to settle down.
Secondly, regardless of ammuntion used, the MG2 does feed the first round more cleanly if the slide is pull back as far as possible and dropped NOT lowered. Some types of ammunition are better than others in this respect in some guns, but the safest way is not to attempt to lower the slide on the first round.
Thirdly, some shooters have not been cleaning and lubing the pistols on a regular basis - the open design of the MG2 action requires regular cleaning and sensible lubrication.
Finally, this might be a problem unique to Australia, but the MG2s don't get along with our "cheap" club ammunition. We have found that they do not cycle cleanly with some batches of Winchester ammunition, but when using RWS, or SK they run fine. We have not had experience with any of the other match loadings, but trust that so long as the manufacture is consistent in priming and dimensions everything should run smoothly.
