I have a fourteen year old daughter who has expressed a desire in WSP.
I thought that the Trailside Target might be an option. I'd appreciate any impressions that you folks would like to share.
I'm sure the subject has been discussed before on TT but my Internet connection is sooo slow that going through the archive a real chore. If anyone can point me to a post(date) with some good feedback I'd appreciate that also.
Hold center,
Alex

Call Larry's guns in ME, he has SIG put together a special trailside ready to go. with a target grip and barrel weight and some other refinements. 2 or 3 of them have already relocated to Phoenix.

Also remember that "Trailside" is the name of the pistol for the American market and that in Europe and elsewhere the same pistol is called the "Hammerli Xesse" (or X-esse). If your are searching the internet for reviews, make sure you also search on the alternate name.

Last Fall I picked up the 6" Target model and put a Nill match grip on it. In hindsight, the Competition model with the plastic adjustable grip would have been just fine and saved me some time and expense. The Trailside is a sweet shooter. Compared to spendy match pistols, the Trailside is pleasantly light weight. It has excellent balance and sits low in the hand, a comfortable and easy gun to shoot. Out of the box it is consistently very accurate!
The trigger is more precision on my vintage FAS, but for the money the Sig is adequate. The second stage can be lightened, or dialed out completely. Larry Carter offers a trigger job for the Trailside which apparently upgrades a part or two and improves adjustability.
Some T-sides have had trouble holding the slide open after the last round. The cure seems to be to simply stretch the magazine spring to increase tension on the slide catch.
The gun will shoot just about anything from cheapo high velocity to top dollar match ammunition. For practice, even the inexpensive stuff will give you satisfying groups.

I have a Trailside which I used in a training program I had for introducing junior shooters to pistol shooting. It was used by many many young shooters and was fired thousands of times. The only problem I had was with the rivet that the slide release pivots on. It loosened up after a while and the slide would not stay back or the slide stop would jam the slide requiring serious effort to get it working again.
I talked to Larry Carter about it and he suggested supporting the rivet head inside the frame and peening the rivet tight again. It worked and the pistol again functions well. Warning!! Don't try to peen the rivet without support of the rivet head or you will bend the frame.
All in all it's a very good pistol for the money.
