FAS 603 or Unique DES/32U

Post by Reinhamre »

Now friends,

It is my turn to ask for an advise:
.32 for center fire.
Used guns, FAS 603 or Unique DES/32U, for or against.
The FAS means less "money" but do not dwell upon that.

I have a Pardini HP today and have thought about Manurhin .38 the last months.

The FAS 603 is a very nice shooting CF gun. Very accurate. I also have the Unique, but since they are out of business there are no spare parts available- you may consider this. Greg Derr

Why do you think that they might not be in business.

I don't think they are exactly doing a lot of R&D on the 603 but IMHO there is still nothing around that beats it for "shootability", providing that you like the balance.

Balance

Post by Reinhamre »

David,

What is the balance like?
As AW93 or an 208S?

Walther, Morini CM32, Pardini style?

As a like AW93 a think that if 603 is not front heavy I can trade the Pardini against a 603 and forget about the Manurhin revolver.

Guest was right - but then guest accidentally got the information twisted and so was corrected by guest and guest. I don't mind people remaining anonymous but please use a non-de-plume so we can tell everyone apart!

So just in case....
Unique are out of business and are no longer opertating.
FAS are still going fine.

For non Italian speakers - hot tip about the http://www.fasdomino.com website. You must have your screen resolution settings set to 1024 x 768 pixels or it will not work.

The 603 is very well balanced. There is an element of forward weight in the 603 - (that thick steel barrel and the side lugs / weights of the slide do put some weight forward), but it is not at all unpleasant. I also have an AW93 and find that the two compliment each other very well.
If I recall, the Unique 32 probably has its weight further back towards the hand (magazine feeds up through the grip). I was offered one about 18 months ago for about $500 which I seriously considered. My hand and body liked it - but I was worried about the parts availability issue and as this particular example had been well used (though also well loved) I decided to steer clear of it.

I think Unique is often used with a barrel weight to compensate this.
Result is a very heavy pistol.

If anyone has or knows of a FAS 603 for sale I would like to buy one for my son to match his FAS 602 rimfire. We are also desperately in need of a copy of the manuals for the above and would be happy to pay for all costs including labour to make a copy of same and send it to us. We would be very eternally grateful!

There is a FAS 603 on Gunbroker. It has not been bid on yet. It has a manual, but it also has left hand grips. The seller also has a FAS 602, a Walther GSP 32, a Walther OSP, and a Clark long slide 38.

Jullian you do see that the post you are asking Kent about is over 2 years old? Which would probably explain why not the HPE.
